How does calibration work? FAQ icon

Calibration means precisely adjusting the picture of a TV or projector, based on measurements, to the reference parameters used in film studios. We change picture settings only - we never touch the hardware.

Calibration is carried out using professional measuring equipment. The result is a picture as close as possible to what the director intended.

Frequently asked questions

Calibration involves changing picture settings only - we do not interfere with the TV’s hardware. As far as we know, the warranty terms of the major TV manufacturers do not exclude such changes; if in doubt, check the warranty terms for your model. We do not use the service menu - we change settings in the user menu or via a network protocol.

Usually 50 to 90 minutes. Additional modes and high-end projectors may extend the visit. Our own software keeps the visit short.

For TVs it makes no difference, whichever modes we calibrate (we can calibrate the night mode during the day and the day mode at night), because our Klein K-10A and K-80 colorimeters effectively block ambient light. The room only needs to be darkened when calibrating a projector.

No, all we need is the TV or projector. We use our own pattern generator during calibration. After the calibration we will gladly advise you by phone or e-mail, free of charge, on connecting and configuring new signal sources.

In most cases, yes - the change is usually most visible in colours, whites and shadow detail. How big the effect is depends on the model, the individual unit and the settings you are used to. That is why we offer a satisfaction guarantee: if you do not see a difference, you pay nothing (details in the Terms of Service). You can also read reviews below.

TVs can be calibrated straight out of the box. Switching the display on 30 minutes before calibration may speed up the process slightly. Projectors should ideally have been used for 10 hours, but this is not a strict requirement.

For TVs, the answer is: you can, but you don’t have to. Most changes made during calibration are permanent and do not degrade over time. Some, such as white balance, can drift over the years (depending on the display technology). If you are keeping your TV for more than three years, it is worth asking us about a special offer on a settings touch-up. For projectors, it is worth recalibrating after a lamp replacement or once the light source has noticeably dimmed (usually after a few years).

Full calibration of a TV for HD and 4K (SDR) sources costs £249 including VAT. Travel in the UK and Ireland is quoted individually. Additional modes, e.g. HDR10 or Dolby Vision, are priced according to the price list. You pay only after the service - in cash to the technician or by bank transfer against an invoice.

After calibration you receive a calibration certificate with the measurement results and information that allows you to restore the settings yourself if they are lost.

Yes. Your enquiry and the conversation with our scheduling team do not commit you to anything. You conclude the contract only on site, before the calibration starts. Until then you can cancel free of charge, even after the technician has arrived.

Our scheduling team will arrange the visit date with you. Any questions about the date? Call +48 22 770 77 77.

–– I’d been putting off calibrating my projector because I thought my picture was already good enough and didn’t need it...... After Maciek’s calibration I saw with my own eyes how much picture quality I’d been missing. Colours and shades of grey, white and black took on a whole new dimension. When we switched back to the old picture I’d been watching and compared it with the calibrated one, the first things that jumped out at me were the washed-out colours and the bluish tint. The difference in the shades of the grass and trees was also very clear: before calibration one shade practically dominated, and afterwards it suddenly turned out that different areas of the lawn have different shades...;-) To sum up, calibration is really worth it if you care about natural colours and want to get your picture 100% right... ;-)

LG OLED B7 calibrated at a customer’s home

- Zbigniew Urbański (LG OLED B7)

–– Hello - since I swapped my Epson EH-TW5000 for a Sony VPL-HW30, I decided to invite Maciek over and see what could be squeezed out of this equipment. I must admit that only today did I read this whole thread. Both the 2D and 3D modes were calibrated, the whole calibration took about 5 hours, and I think that with my very limited knowledge of the subject I wouldn’t have been up to the task, even with high-end calibration equipment. During the calibration I started to worry that I preferred the picture before the adjustments, but after switching between the factory settings and the calibrated ones it turned out I was wrong. My old picture really was oversaturated, less detailed and genuinely unnatural. Even though my eyes aren’t what they used to be (I’ll be 50 soon), I can see the difference, and it’s significant.

–– Hello, I’ll join the discussion too. The guys from SkalibrujTV - Mr Koper, to be exact - calibrated my LG OLED B6J TV exactly 3 days ago. I consider their work very professional. The TV took on natural colours, which was visible immediately after calibration. You can see the difference even on regular channels - I used to have a Panasonic plasma, and I compare this picture to it as well. As you can see from this whole thread, some people like an artificial, cold, oversaturated picture. Personally, I can’t imagine watching this type of TV without calibration (even though I spent two weeks adjusting it every day, I couldn’t get the effect I got after calibration). I highly recommend them and say hi to the guys from SkalibrujTV. P.S. You’re welcome to do my car detailing too, because that was done by some unprofessional company - holograms everywhere :).

Samsung MU8002 after professional calibration

- Artur B. (Samsung MU8002)

–– I’ve also just had my 46HX850 calibrated by Maciej Koper, and I’m very pleasantly surprised by the results. Until now I thought my picture was set up reasonably well by eye (I’d spent a lot of time adjusting it since day one), so I didn’t feel much need for a professional calibration. As it turned out, though, my unit had a strong pink tint in the white balance, which only Maciej’s calibration managed to detect and nicely correct (without proper measurements there’s no chance of getting it right). Other parameters and colours improved too: there’s now more detail in the shadows and all colours look naturally better - you can see it nicely, e.g. in the shades of the grass and its shadows, when switching between the scene with and without calibration. If you want to get the most out of your screen, don’t hesitate, because the improvement is visible right away. The picture is now right - beautiful and natural, without any colour cast, exactly as it should be. I no longer have the problem I had until now, when whatever I watched, something always seemed off and I kept making adjustments. Without Maciej’s know-how and equipment, there’s no way to set it up properly yourself. Once again, I recommend him and warmly thank Maciej for his time.

–– My projector is calibrated, and the difference between before and after is night and day. There was too much green and red in the colour palette, which threw off all the other colours. […] I’ll be encouraging everyone to get a proper calibration.

–– I’ve had my TV calibrated. I’m very happy with the result. HDR movies in particular now make a stunning impression. As for the 6500K setting, I’ve always been attached to that kind of colour rendering. For movies, it’s the natural setting. And the fact that we’re used to cold colours comes from computer monitors, where the colour temperature is set much higher by default.

–– “It’s like being there” - my mate blurted out while we were watching the jungle trek from the BBC series “Human Planet”, after Mr Maciej had calibrated my GT30. That’s when it occurred to me that those four words are the shortest and a truly accurate review of the work done :) At first I approached the need for calibration “somewhat timidly”, so as a trial I decided to have only the night mode calibrated (I assumed the effects would be easier to notice in ideal conditions). And the effect is more than good - in many scenes, especially in the shadows of, say, “Blade Runner” or “Aliens”, I began to find details I hadn’t noticed before. Now the picture is alive; it draws you further into the atmosphere of the scene, into the middle of the action. It’s much closer to the cinema than with the factory settings. That’s not to say that all these details suddenly vanish completely when you switch back to the factory settings (although some do). The point is that they become less legible, less obvious, as if hidden - you have to strain to see them again. But I don’t sit down in front of the TV to analyse the picture; I sit down to be enchanted and drawn into another world. A well-done calibration definitely makes it easier to be transported to another place and time. “It’s like being there” - that’s the result of your work, Mr Maciej, and thank you for it. Now, almost two months later, I can see only one drawback of the whole operation: I didn’t have the day mode calibrated, and now I know what results can be achieved. I hope that on his next visit to Łódź, Mr Maciej will let me invite him for coffee and, “while he’s at it”, set up the day mode for an old customer ;)
